Caravaggio and the Caravaggesques in Florence
| May 22, 2010 | to | October 17, 2010 |
An extraordinary exhibitions at the Uffizzi Gallery shows the rich relationship between Caravaggio and Florence. Maybe Caravaggio never visited the Tuscan city, but we know that the Medici Family bought some of his masterpieces and that many Florence artists were inspired by his works. The presence of important artists as Artemisia Gentileschi, Battistello Caracciolo and Theodoor Rombouts, and the direct dealings with artists like Gerrit Honthorst, Bartolomeo Manfredi and Jusepe Ribera gave rise to an intense Caravaggesque “season”.
More than one hundred paintings and valuable documents at the Uffizzi celebrate the artist, on the occasion of the IV centennial of his death.
